Or perhaps it was something else...
Since 1987 or so, the 5.25" floppy disk officially made its way into the backs of desk drawers, bottoms of bookcases, or boxes left in the garage, so they could make room for their smaller, hardback 3.5" brothers which today are all but close to extinction. Needless to say, the 5.25" floppy disk's days are far from over and are pretty much up there with the fossilized lizards which we're abusing for fuel.
During their heyday, these potential deadly throwing stars ruled our lives, stored our lives, were our lives. We praised the digital Allah when the 5.25" replaced its 8" cousin and were even more amazed to learn that we could notch them ourselves so as to flip them over and use the back-sides on most personal home computers. (Even if this would void any warranties...)
Yes, years have past since the 5.25" disk was god and now they sit lost on various Thrift Store shelves and garbage dump piles, awaiting their fate... lost in the world, accelerated through time geometrically where as their existence is nothing more then a blur.
(Sad isn't it)
So I, just an individual who grew up in the world of the 5.25" disk, have decided to share with the world, a lost legacy, a forgotten world, a misplaced memory of what once was. May the memories they invoke be good ones, unlike the one I have of paying $50 for a box of 10 BASF disks.
